The Welsh Whisky Distillery Co originally established in Frongoch, Bala in N.Wales in 1889. In 1999 the new Welsh Whisky Co formed. Founded by a group of friends in South Wales, Penderyn was the first distillery in Wales for over 100 years as an independent Company owned by a small group of passionate shareholders.
Welsh gold is extremely rare, pure and precious and the whiskies reflect these qualities.
First single malt whiskies -as pure and precious as Welsh gold – launched in 2004 and exports to France started that year. It was an unique distilling process - inspired from 2002 by legendary distiller Dr Jim Swan - produces the highest strength single malt new make spirit (92%abv) anywhere in the world.
The Brand now based on multi-award winning ranges (Dragon and Gold) and limited single cask editions including “European Whisky of the year 2020 Single Cask”
The Distilleries
Penderyn is now operating at 2 distilleries in Wales. The original Penderyn Distillery in the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Llandudno Distillery opened in May 2021.

A third distillery is being constructed in Swansea on the site of a renovated copperworks by the River Tawe. All the locations operate with the environment, their local communities and partners in prime focus. The whiskies are matured in carefully selected casks from the finest distilleries and wineries from around the world. Penderyn’s distilleries and warehouse (currently contains over 13000 casks of “Welsh Gold”) are produced under the expert-eye of our all-female Distilling & Blending team
